April in 5th grade
In April, 5th grade is going to be introduced to 5 major Artists and 5 very different Art styles as our Art History Study section begins.
The first Artist we will look at is Piet Mondrian.
The first Artist we will look at is Piet Mondrian.
Piet Mondrian's Artwork can be broken down into a few basic elements -
-straight lines and right angles
(-which form squares and rectangles)
-primary colors + black and white
Each student will create an image in the style of Mondrian.
(look closely .......... no triangles)
5th graders - here's the windmills I mentioned - He was from Holland, remember?

After finishing up on our Ceramic fish project, 4th grade is working on a printmaking project called - Gyotaku (which means Japanese Fish Prints)
I use rubber fish molds for this project.
Here's a Link About Gyotaku if you'd like to read more about it!

Gustav Klimt
reference images showing byzantine patterning
(meaning - a whole lotta patterns)
Prepare for really, really, really, really large projects to be coming home from our Gustav Klimt lesson. We traced actual children in the making of these images.
April in 1st grade
We've just finished up a project on Mosaic Butterflies that we've decided were so cute we're collecting them to put them in the Gratz Fair display in September.
I know it seems like a long way away, but if you think about it, we really only have about 2 weeks of school before I have to run over there the Friday before the Fair starts to hang up the display. So I collect projects the year before.
Don't worry, they will be returned in September with a display tag when the Fair is over.
Can you tell what they are made out of yet?
Welcome to the Artroom on the Web!
Welcome!!
Here's a new blog for all the Lenkerville students and their parents to follow what's going on in the Artroom at school.
I'll update as often as possible with new projects we're working on here, projects you can work on at home, and interesting things you can find on the web to supplement the Art and Artists we're working on in the classroom.
